- California Senate Bill 1383 requires all commercial businesses to recycle organic waste effective Jan.1,2022.
- Organic waste is food scraps, food-soiled paper, landscaping waste and non-hazardous wood.
- When organic waste decomposes in a landfill, it releases methane, a gas that traps the sun’s heat and contributes to climate change.
- Landscape service providers or private waste haulers may collect landscaping and non-hazardous wood waste.
- Only franchise waste haulers or certified recyclers may collect food scraps and food-soiled paper.
