Leaving extinguishers unattended and unused may result in leakage of gases and other harmful chemicals over time. Servicing extinguishers annually ensures the proper containment of chemicals at the workplace or in the home. It is important that these chemicals do not find their way back into ground water, streams, lakes or the ocean as many of the extinguishing agents are toxic or harmful to the environment.
