South Bay Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility
Services are reserved to residents of the City of Chula Vista, City of Imperial Beach, City of National City and Unincorporated County residents only. Household hazardous waste and electronic waste is accepted. No appointment is required.
Services
-Drop off every Wednesday and Saturday between 9 AM – 1 PM at the South Bay HHW Facility on 1800 Maxwell Road, Chula Vista, CA 91911. Proof of residency is required.
This facility will be closed the Saturday after Thanksgiving and Juneteenth, Independence Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day if observed on a Wednesday or Saturday.
- DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Continue on Maxwell Rd. There will be a public works building on the left about a quarter mile down the road BEFORE you enter the Landfill. There is a large parking lot after the Public Works Building surrounded by a chain linked fence. Enter this parking lot where the sign says Hazardous Waste Drop-off with a left turn arrow.
–Pick up is available to elderly or home-bound residents for residents. If you live in City of Chula Vista, City of Imperial Beach, or City of National contact Republic Services at (619) 691-5122 to schedule a pick-up. If you live in the Unincorporated part of the County of San Diego contact the County of San Diego’s Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Call Center at (877) 713-2784 to schedule a pick-up.
Hours of operation:
-Every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 AM – 1 PM.
Maximum Transportation Limits:
-15 gallons of liquid or 125 pounds total volume of household hazardous waste.
Handling instructions:
-Leave products in the existing container, if possible.
-Ensure lids are on tight so containers will no leak.
-Transport containers in the trunk or in the back of the vehicle away from passengers and pets
-Do not transport over 15 gallons or 125 pounds at one time.
-Containers used for transport must be no larger than a 5 gallon bucket.
-Fiberglass must be double-bagged with no air in the bags (so they are less likely to rip) and have a total weight of no more than 125 pounds.
Other requirements:
-Bring proof of residency in the form of a drivers license or a utility bill.
-Gasoline needs to be in an approved container, commonly found at auto parts stores. Please note, containers are not returned.
-Needles/sharps should be transported in a rigid, puncture-resistant, tightly-sealed container, including: bleach bottles, liquid detergent bottles, or coffee cans with lids.
-Empty containers can be recycled in your blue bin.
