* Effective Oct. 1, 2018, the Miramar Landfill, Greenery and Recycling Center will be closed on Sundays. These facilities are also closed on the following holidays:  New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

ATTENTION LANDFILL VISITORS: The landfill currently accepts only CASH and CHECKS as payment, please remember this and plan ahead prior to arriving to the pay booths.

LANDFILL: Self-dumping vehicles accepted until 4 p.m. and NO clean fill dirt program trucks after 4 p.m.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: Due to rain or other weather-related issues at the landfill and greenery operations, the City, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to temporarily close to vehicles with trailers. This would occur in the event conditions at the tipping deck are not conducive to the maneuvering of vehicles with trailers. It becomes a safety issue to both the public and our employees and a hindrance to operations when dealing with incapacitated vehicles.

H&M – National City (Textile Recycling Program)

Go to any H& M to drop off a bag of clean unwanted textiles from any brand — used tees, dresses, underwear, socks, stockings, ripped tights, even old or used towels and sheets and you’ll get rewarded with an H&M store voucher!  Here’s how it works:

Don’t want it? Recycle.

Our garment collecting program was rolled out in 2013, and we have recycling boxes in stores across the globe. It works like this:

1. Bring any unwanted clothes or textiles, by any brand and in any condition, to one of our stores.

2. Hand in your bag of old clothes at the register and receive a thank-you coupon to use toward your next purchase. Easy!

Once you’ve dropped off your previously loved fashion in one of our garment collecting boxes, our business partner takes over. It empties the boxes and sorts the contents into three categories:

Rewear: Wearable clothes are marketed as secondhand clothing.

Reuse: If the clothes or textiles are not suitable for rewear, they’re turned into other products, such as remake collections or cleaning cloths.

Recycle: All other clothes and textiles are shredded into textile fibers and used to make, for example, insulation materials.

Only want it for tonight? Rent.

In 2019, we launched a rental service in one of our stores in Stockholm where you can rent select outfits from our Conscious Exclusive collections. You can own the look, without owning the garment. Genius!

Green Shredding

Green Shredding began as San Diego Shredders in 2005 after Chris Reynolds tried to get a paper shredding service to shred one box of documents. He called every company in San Diego and Los Angeles with little luck. He finally found a company in Orange County that would shred his box if he waited on the curb for an hour and paid them $140. It was settled.

HE CASHED IN HIS 401K, BOUGHT A TRUCK AND SHREDDER AND HE WAS IN BUSINESS.

In the beginning, he targeted small business and residential customers with Google and Yahoo internet marketing. He was his only competition because the big shredding companies did not use internet marketing, nor did they care about servicing that segment of the market.

San Diego Shredders grew very quickly in a niche market.

In 2008, Green Shredding was born (and incorporated). San Diego Shredders had always recycled, but the new company was going several steps farther. Reynolds created a business that is in every way eco-friendly. No more giant diesel trucks polluting the environment. No more waste. Green Shredding is the only shredding company in the world to utilize a 100% Green fleet and offer a free reuse program for office supplies.

Jacumba Library

Did you know you can safely recycle your batteries for free by taking them to 14 San Diego County Library branches?

That’s right, the library. It’s not just for books; it’s for batteries too!

Just bring them to the battery drop-off bins located inside the 14 branches. The libraries primarily collect standard alkaline batteries — Cs, Ds, AAs, AAAs, 9-volts, you name it. But they can also take rechargeable batteries; lithium batteries must be bagged separately.

Please tape positive end of batteries to reduce flammability and place batteries in a resealable bag.

Donated Materials Policy

The San Diego County Library is no longer accepting physical donations of materials for the collection, with the exception of items produced by local authors or musicians.

The Library purchases materials at steep discounts that come with labels, barcodes and covers, ready for customer use. It is more expensive to accept a donation and prepare it for circulation than it is for the Library to purchase a title that comes prepared by our vendors. If you would like to support the Library’s collection, we encourage you to donate funds for the purchase of physical and digital materials for our communities.

If you are looking for an organization to donate your books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, or magazines to, consider contacting one of the organizations below:

Your Branch Friends of the Library
Many branch Friends of the Library groups accept book donations for their book sales. Please check their websites or phone ahead to ensure that your donation can be accepted at this time. Items donated to the Friends of the Library are sold to support San Diego County Library branch collections and events.
