Large Furniture Accepted
Goodwill accepts large furniture in a reusable or good condition at participating retail stores and donation storefronts. Not all furniture can be accepted, please contact the specific store for more details.
Electronics Accepted
Goodwill accepts all types of electronics such as TVs, cell phones, computers, laptops, monitors, printers, tablets, video games consoles! Goodwill will not accept household hazardous waste such as household batteries or fluorescent light bulbs or items with broken/cracked screens.

Pick-up service available for large furniture, call the customer service line Monday through Friday at 888-446-6394 OR 619-225-2200.
- Large furniture can only be accepted at retail stores and donation storefronts.
- Large household appliances (ovens, stoves, refrigerators) are accepted only at the San Ysirdo Retail Store and at the Otay Mesa Outlet, so long as in good condition.
Home Depot provides a free CFL recycling program at its stores. Residents can drop off their intact CFL bulbs and Christmas string lights at collection bins located near the service desk or by the front door.
Shattered bulbs cannot be accepted, find a local household hazardous waste collection facility by calling 1-800-237-BLUE (2583)
Home Depot also accepts rechargeable batteries used in power tools for recycling. No household batteries will be accepted.
This location will accept architectural paint or “program products” which are defined as interior or exterior architectural coatings sold in containers of 5 gallons or less.
They do not accept:
- Aerosol
- Industrial
- Original equipment
- Specialty coatings
This location will accept paint under the following conditions:
- Paint must be in its original container
- Container must be labeled
- Container must be in good condition and not leaking
- Container must be five gallons in size or smaller.
Drop-off sites may establish limits on the quantity of products they accept. Generally, the limit in small stores will be lower than in large store. Please check with the site if you have more than 5 gallons.
In addition to residents, this program is available to trade painters, contractors and other businesses with one restriction: If your business produces more than 27 gallons of hazardous waste per month, you may only use the drop-off sites for your latex paint and not for your oil-based paint. To learn more about the 27-gallon restriction, contact PaintCare or the California Department of Toxic Substances at 855-724-6809.
Ecology’s scrap metal recycling center buys ferrous and non-ferrous metals such as:
- Aluminum
- Steel
- Iron
- Copper
- Brass
- Tin
Will deliver and pick up roll-off bins of various types & sizes to recycle your scrap metal.
This location will accept scrap metal and fire extinguishers with the valve removed.
You can drop off your food scraps here to be composted at no cost! They will not accept compost in containers larger than 5 gallons. You can bring up to 3 of these 5 gallon containers per person per day!
NO palms, yucca, or dirt.
All lumber must be clean, untreated, unpainted, and no metal bindings (hinges). This location will also accept lumber with nails in it.
Christmas trees are accepted from residents through the month of January at no charge to San Diego County residents. To qualify for free drop off, Christmas trees must:
- come from personal residences/non-commercial sources.
- be free of ornaments, stands, flocking and netting.
Christmas tree retailers and their contractors can recycle Christmas trees for $48 per ton.
Free compost and mulch is available for residents of Oceanside.
You can also drop off donations at any of our four locations. Your donations are sold at our four stores and turned into cash to benefit Disabled American Veterans. We gladly accept:
- Clothing
- Furniture
- Automobiles, boats, RVs, vehicles, trucks, motorcycles
- Electronics (TVs, monitors, computers, copy machines, refrigerators, freezers, gas or electric stoves, gas or electric dryers, washers, cell phones accepted even if not working, printers must be working)

- Office supplies

- Medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, commodes, hospital beds, canes, transport bench, crutches)

Best Buy will recycle electronics regardless of where you bought it, how old it is or who made it.
Special instructions:
- Consumers may drop off old cell phones, rechargeable batteries, inkjet/toner cartridges, and more at no cost at a kiosk, just inside the door of every single U.S. Best Buy store

This location will accept all lead acid batteries including sealed lead acid batteries, UPS batteries, AGM batteries, GEL batteries, industrial batteries, steel case batteries, forklift batteries, and telecommunication batteries.
Bulk pick-up available for businesses or large residential quantities.

This location will pay for empty inkjet cartridges, must be in good condition with the most important consideration being that they are not rusting and have never been recycled before.
