Zero Waste Products for Sustainable Living
Sunshine Market & Refillery is your friendly neighborhood (zero-waste) grocery store founded with one goal in mind: to reduce waste. To that end, we’ve made it our mission to provide the community with a sustainable source for grocery products and everyday essentials.
FAQs
What do you sell?
From household cleaners, to skin care, to non-perishables and more, we sell anything a typical grocery store sells. Don’t see something you want? Feel free to submit a suggestion!
What is a zero waste grocery store?
A zero-waste grocery store is just a regular grocery store, with one small difference: No single use plastic products are sold! And since every product is sold in bulk, customers can purchase any quantity they’d like.
How does it work?
It’s simple. Bring your reusable containers, weigh them, fill them, then weigh them again. This way, the weight of your container is deducted and you only pay for what you need.
What if I don’t have my own containers?
No problem! There are reusable containers available for purchase in the store. We also have a community shelf where people have donated jars for anyone to use.
How does this contribute to sustainability?
By making the switch to reusable glass containers, together we are reducing the amount of single use plastics sent to our landfills and polluting our oceans.
Almost every bottle and can you use can be recycled. Look at the label for the universal recycle symbol and the words CA CASH REFUND or CA CRV.* Containers with these markings are good to go in your curbside bin and will be accepted at the recycling center. For more information about the CRV program, check out our Frequently Asked Questions. Other acceptable labels include “California Redemption Value,” “CA Redemption Value” or “California Cash Refund.”
There’s no need to wash or crush your recyclables. Just separate your aluminum, glass, and plastic containers in different bags or bins, and head for the recycling center.
Recycling centers are not owned or operated by the State of California. All recycling center days and hours of operation are determined and overseen by the individual recycling center operator and must be posted at the center. Centers are required to be open a minimum of 30 hours per week, at least five days a week, and at least one weekend day. If you would like to report a recycling center closure or file a formal complaint regarding a certified recycling center, please email CalRecycle or call 1-800-RECYCLE.

The program is open to Kaiser Permanente health plan members and nonmembers.
Located on the 1st Floor. See ‘Pharmacy’ section on website for more details.
Medications
Patients can drop their unwanted drugs into secure collection kiosks located in some Kaiser Permanente pharmacy lobbies. The kiosks are available during normal business hours.
See website for items they do AND do not accept. For other items not accepted, contact your local or county waste service.
Tips for safe disposal:
– Keep your medication in original bottles or containers (rather than placing in baggies). Mark out or remove your personal information so it can’t be seen
– To avoid spills, please don’t put loose pills in the kiosk or mailer
– To throw away needles, syringes, or lancets, ask your pharmacist where to find the nearest collection container.
