Sunshine Market and Refillery
Zero Waste Products for Sustainable Living
Sunshine Market & Refillery is your friendly neighborhood (zero-waste) grocery store founded with one goal in mind: to reduce waste. To that end, we’ve made it our mission to provide the community with a sustainable source for grocery products and everyday essentials.
FAQs
What do you sell?
From household cleaners, to skin care, to non-perishables and more, we sell anything a typical grocery store sells. Don’t see something you want? Feel free to submit a suggestion!
What is a zero waste grocery store?
A zero-waste grocery store is just a regular grocery store, with one small difference: No single use plastic products are sold! And since every product is sold in bulk, customers can purchase any quantity they’d like.
How does it work?
It’s simple. Bring your reusable containers, weigh them, fill them, then weigh them again. This way, the weight of your container is deducted and you only pay for what you need.
What if I don’t have my own containers?
No problem! There are reusable containers available for purchase in the store. We also have a community shelf where people have donated jars for anyone to use.
How does this contribute to sustainability?
By making the switch to reusable glass containers, together we are reducing the amount of single use plastics sent to our landfills and polluting our oceans.

Pools & Spas – County Guidance
Preventing runoff from pool, spa, and fountain maintenance activities from entering our streets and storm drains helps protect our waterways from pollution! All sources of pollution, including runoff from pools, spas, and fountains, are prohibited from leaving your property; only rainwater is allowed in the streets and storm drains.
What can I do?
- Dispose of waste thoughtfully: discharge chlorinated or treated water into the sanitary sewer system to ensure that the chemicals often used in pools, spas and fountains do not enter our storm drains.
- Use Best Management Practices (BMPs): BMPs are techniques or controls used to prevent or reduce the discharge of pollutants, such as chlorinated water, into the storm drain system. BMPs for pool, spa, and fountain maintenance include discharging water to a landscaped area.
Discharging swimming pool, spa, and fountain water to a storm drain can only be done if the water is dechlorinated, has a pH in the 7.2-8 range, and has no algae or suspended solids.
What Can You Do To Keep Our Waterways Clean?
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions for all pool chemicals. For more information on
where to properly dispose of excess chemicals, call 1-877-R-1-EARTH (1-877-713-2784). - Dispose of liquid waste from pool and spa filters into the house sanitary sewer
system and dispose of solids from pool and spa filters into a trash bag and then rinse
the filter into a landscaped area or container. - Drain water to a landscaped or rocky area that will not cause soil erosion or runoff
to a storm drain. - Drain water into a storm drain only if the water is reduced to less than 1 part per
million of chlorine or bromine, and does not contain algaecides, acid wash, or high
levels of salinity. - Pool owners are responsible for the practices of their contractors. Share these
important facts with your pool maintenance company.

Ralphs – CRV In-Store Redemption Center – Point Loma
Plastic Bag and film recycling bin is at the front.
CalRecycle’s website notifies Californians of local retailers who are obligated to offer CRV redemption in-store when there is no buyback center nearby.
Beverage dealers, retailers that sell CRV beverages, share an obligation to ensure convenient redemption opportunities for consumers. If a beverage dealer is located in an “unserved Convenience zone” and there is no recycling center nearby, these retailers are required to either redeem CRV material in-store (Option A), or opt to pay a fee of $100 per day (Option B).
View a list of “Option A” dealers. https://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/Markets/RecyclingClosures/
The most efficient and effective way to lodge a complaint against a recycling center or an Option A retailer and initiate a CalRecycle inspection of that entity is by emailing your name, phone number, a brief summary of the issue, and the name and address of the subject of your complaint to: complaints@calrecycle.ca.gov.

ITEMS WE DO NOT ACCEPT
Thank you for your donations and dedication to Goodwill. With your support we are able to provide employment and training opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Over the past few years, we have seen a huge increase in landfill fees because some of the donated items cannot be sold in our stores, outlets or be recycled. The amount we are spending on landfill and HAZMAT disposal fees could be better used to serve more people in our community. We have created a list of items that we cannot accept at our donation centers. Please let us know if your donation is rare or a collectible and we will make sure it is given to the correct handler. Thank you for being active participants in helping us fulfill our mission.
Due to Federal and State Laws, Safety Concerns, and Recycling Guidelines, we cannot accept these items:
