A downspout is a pipe that helps rainwater flow off the roof, but they often flow directly onto hard, impervious areas like concrete or pavement. That water runoff then enters the storm drain system where it flows untreated into San Diego’s waterways and the ocean. A downspout redirect helps this rainwater flow to a vegetated area to be naturally filtered instead. So joining your neighbors and utilizing this rebate will help protect our beaches, water quality and marine life.
Receive up to $40 per disconnect by redirecting downspout to a landscaped area. Normally done in conjunction with a rain barrel application
Rebates for rain barrels and rain gutters are also available. Visit the City of San Diego website for more info.
Rain Gutters are used on your home to divert rainwater away from your property in an effort to protect your roof and foundation from rainwater accumulation. But did you know Rain Gutters are also used to divert rainwater into a green space, your landscape or rain barrel which can naturally filter out pollutants which may end up in our storm drains.
Rebates for new gutters are $1.25 for every linear foot of aluminum gutter, $2.00 for every linear foot of steel
gutters and $0.25 for every linear foot of PVC/vinyl/plastic gutter, up to 250 feet.
Only the cost of the gutter is eligible for a rebate.
Rebates for rain barrels and downspout redirects are also available. Visit the City of San Diego website for more info.

One of the goals in building the Lemon Grove Farmers Market is to have people check weekly to see what their local farms have brought to them first. Farmers pick what they bring. The eggs, just found and brought to you and the bees are working hard to provide us with fresh local honey (got allergies – a teaspoon of local honey will help).

The Little Italy Wednesday Mercato occupies three blocks on W. Date St. between Kettner Blvd. and State Street including the Piazza della Famiglia. There are plenty of artisan food vendors too to round out your shopping experience including bread, granola, yogurt, bone broth, kombucha, fudge, cookies, and more.

ORGANIC WASTE

Organic waste is a renewable natural resource, and it mainly comes from yard and kitchen waste from homes, food waste, and industrial and commercial operations scraps. Mandatory recycling of organic waste is the next step to achieving California’s Zero Waste goals.
Recycling organics is easy and convenient with EDCO’s commingled Organics Recycling program. EDCO has expanded its source-separated green waste collection to include recycling food waste. The service will allow customers to place food scraps in the same container as green waste. EDCO’s new Organics Recycling program is a foundation for your community to achieve State mandates, including AB 1826, AB 1594, and SB 1383, which are directly related to organics recycling in the State of California.
