Since 2010, we have offered front-of-store recycling kiosks that give guests an easy way to recycle cans, glass, plastic bottles, plastic bags, MP3 players, ink cartridges and cell phones right in their local store. The goal of the program is to extend our company recycling efforts, and so far, the program has kept thousands of tons of recycled materials out of landfills.
We endeavor to make recycling simpler and more convenient for our guests with select take-back programs. We have offered front-of-store recycling of plastic bags and some electronics since 2010 and have held car seat trade-in events since 2016.
They offer plastic film and bag take back and recycling services for their customers at many of their stores, where collection bins are conveniently placed within stores entrances.
HOW IT WORKS:
Co-Harvest is an agricultural nonprofit that establishes and maintains micro-farms at low costs throughout San Diego. We transform your unused space into an efficient micro-farm, which feeds your family and your community. Freshly harvested crops are distributed back to members, food banks, and community fridges. Sliding scale memberships and farm installations are available for low-income families, philanthropists and pre-existing farms & community spaces.
Get started by scheduling a free consultation. We’ll determine the best plan for you based on the amount of space you have (minimum 10×10 ft), sunlight, irrigation, and your income eligibility. Then you’ll pick your veggies, pick your membership plan, and we’ll start co-harvesting!
OTHER SERVICES:
Fresh Food Delivery: Their delivery program is solely for food-insecure members, and we are looking for food insecure households that would be willing to grow food on their land. All Food Insecure Members will receive at least a small bi-weekly bag of produce at NO CHARGE.
Food Donations: The Community Supporter Membership is made for people who love the idea of donating food for those in need without lifting a finger.
Food Scrap Pickup & Compost: This service provides free food-scrap pickup, as well as compost education for Co-Harvest members. Their Food Members are required to take part in our free food scrap collection or at-home composting program.

We accept most donations of items in gently used and working condition. All donations are sold as is, so they must be clean and in good condition. When we receive an item that cannot be sold in our stores or easily recycled, we have to pay for disposal. This means that less funds go towards helping our neighbors in need. Please read both the list of items we accept and the list of items we are not able to accept on the website.

In addition to residents, this program is available to trade painters, contractors and other businesses with one restriction: If your business produces more than 27 gallons of hazardous waste per month, you may only use the drop-off sites for your latex paint and not for your oil-based paint. For Free Pick-Up, please call (800) 558-8220 or fill out the form here. They are able to pick up furniture and large items at this time, and all donations must be outside for pickup.
At least 2 pieces of furniture are required to be part of your donation for a pick-up request to be scheduled. You can donate clothing, household items in store.
Items that they DO NOT take include: beds, entertainment centers, children’s items, old electronics, and large office furniture. Additionally, all items must be in resalable condition and are at the driver’s discretion.
We pay cash or check for items on the spot and haul the items away immediately. You don’t have to clean or sort your items, as we will do that for you. We are NOT an Estate Sale company, we resell to the public. We have a retail store and sell through various online formats. Keep in mind our markup is considered when buying.

Trading in your Used books for a Discount Credit

Store offers 50% off of used-book prices with your trade-credit! The amount we issue will be in the computer under your name to use at each purchase until credit runs out.
They will give you back the books we pass on.
Please – anything broken or soiled don’t bring.
They don’t pay cash for books – they offer a trade-credit. They look at the books you bring, and once they’ve selected the titles they think we can resell, they offer approx. 1/2 of our estimated retail price as a credit. Your credit then pays for up to 50% of the price of used books and up to 25% of the price of any other items; ie new books, stationery or any orders (new or used).
Picture ID is required. They will keep the credit balance in their database. Please make at least one purchase a year to keep your credit active. We don’t pay cash.

Verbatim Books buys and trades books!
Verbatim Books is very selective about the books they take, but they do buy all types of books (except for school textbooks). For a better idea of what they buy, please feel free to browse around the store and see the books they are selling.
Unfortunately they cannot say if they will be able to buy books without seeing them in person. They pay about 20% in cash/30% in store credit of their retail value.
They buy/trade on Fridays and also on Mondays from 12-4 pm and also by appointment if those times can’t work for you.
If you have more than 5 boxes of books, please make an appointment.
To make an appointment, send an email to selling AT verbatimbooks.com (please replace the AT with an @ symbol) with a picture of the books or at least a cross-section of them to give them an idea of what you have. Without pictures, they will likely not be able to make an appointment. They have appointments available Saturday and Sunday for your convenience.

Kiosks can be found in the “E” Street lobby of the Police Headquarters and main lobbies of the eight neighborhood Police substations.
Medications
Medications in standard containers may be deposited in collection boxes. Loose medication can be put into plastic bags available at the collection box and then deposited. Please ensure any liquid medication is enclosed in secure containers before depositing.
Once collected, evidence staff will ensure the medication is disposed of according to federal standards. Most prescription drug drop-off locations are open weekdays from 8am to 4:30pm. Call the station’s 15th and E street lobby for hours and to confirm lobby is open.
Needles/Sharps
Make sure sharps are stored in a sharps container kit or in a rigid, puncture-resistant, tightly-sealed container, including: bleach bottles, liquid detergent bottles, or coffee cans with lids. To fit into the Police Station kiosks, sharps containers must be 1 gallon or less in size OR have measurements less than 14”H x 8”W x 8”D
Do not put in: paper or plastic bags, glass containers, cardboard or coated paper containers, plastic bottles that have a CRV (California Redemption Value), or milk jugs.
