Draining a swimming pool, spa or fountain can result in pollutants like algae, chlorine, salt and other chemicals in the water that can be hazardous to San Diego residents and toxic to the environment. Those pollutants and any pool construction materials must be removed before water enters the storm drain system.

KD Farms Trucking
We pick up local discarded food and processing residuals and deliver them to our sister company, Frank Konyn Dairy to be used as cattle feed. Last year we picked up over 18,000 tons of the following:
- Spent brewery grains from 18 local breweries

We partner with individuals and organizations to work with survivors of sex trafficking and help answer the question of “What happens next?” We are committed to addressing the circumstances that created the vulnerability towards exploitation in the first place – namely, isolation and poverty. The foundation of our answer is to provide a pathway for the women to lift themselves out of poverty through entrepreneurship and relationships; granting them the capacity to earn a sustainable livable wage while they focus on all others areas of healing. Our most successful initiative to date has been equipping the women in our programs to run and operate their own bra-selling businesses using the new and gently used bras we collect from donors around the world as their inventory.

Bras and the second-hand clothing market provide a safe and powerful economic opportunity for survivors of trafficking in the developing countries we serve. City of San Diego Organic Waste Recycling Program
California State Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), requires the reduction of organic waste disposed of in landfills. Organic waste is food scraps and food-soiled paper from kitchens and food operations and yard waste such as garden and landscape waste, organic textiles and carpets and wood waste.
In order to comply with SB 1383, and to make San Diego a more sustainable and thriving place for everyone, the City of San Diego is pleased to introduce a new Organic Waste Recycling program for all City residents. The program – which represents the biggest change to trash and recycling in San Diego’s history – supports the City’s Zero Waste and Climate Action Plan goals.
Organic waste collection services for households serviced by the City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department will begin in January 2023 and will continue as a phased rollout, with completion expected by mid-2023.

There are many ways to become a better recycler. Understanding what is recyclable and what isn’t in your community is the number one way to be a better, more effective recycler. But no matter where you live, some items should NEVER be recycled – for example, yard waste.
While there are a few sustainable ways to manage your yard waste, which include grass clippings and trimmings from trees, flowers, shrubs, and more, recycling that material isn’t one of them.
If you’re looking to implement more sustainable habits into your yard or lawn maintenance routine, then check out these tips from Republic Services:
- Don’t trash it. If you can avoid putting your lawn clippings or yard waste in the trash, you’re taking a small step to help support a greener environment. And no matter what, never place yard waste of any kind in your recycling bin.
- Let it be. Leaving clippings on your lawn will NOT damage the grass. If you mow your lawn so that the grass clippings are never more than two or three inches tall and leave the clippings where they fall – they will help enrich the soil. Don’t forget about those leaves. Did you know that you can also leave leaves on your lawn? According to Consumer Reports, leaves create a natural layer on any soil or grass and help foster and support a local ecosystem.
- Compost it. If you compost at home, yard trimmings can be added to an outdoor compost pile. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, if all yard clippings were composted, we could keep about 33 million pounds of organic waste out of landfills each year. Composting is not the same process as recycling cans, paper and plastic, so never put organic waste in your curbside recycling bin. - Get help. If you think that finding a way to sustainably manage your yard waste is overwhelming, then get help! Find a local yard waste or composting removal service to help you do good with your yard waste and lawn clippings. It’s a simple solution to remove yard debris while protecting the planet.

One Day HHW Collection Events | City of San Diego
The City offers household hazardous waste collection events every spring and fall as a convenient way to dispose of hazardous materials and prevent them from ending up in the Miramar Landfill.

Hydros Free Recycling Envelope Program
How it works
Hydros has partnered with TerraCycle so you can recycle Hyrdros water filter products and packaging for free. Request a free shipping envelope with a prepaid shipping label, send in your trash, and we’ll recycle it. Enrollment limits apply.
- Request a free envelope using the order form below. (It will ship via USPS within two weeks.)
- Once you receive your envelope, remove the prepaid return label from inside the envelope and put it on the outside, covering your address.
- Begin to fill the envelope with Hyrdros water filter products and packaging.
- Once you’ve filled up your envelope, seal it, and drop it off at a USPS location.
UCSD Waste Tags Program | Pharmaceutical Disposal | Employees Only
By law, hazardous waste containers must be properly labeled for storage, transportation, and disposal. A UC San Diego hazardous waste tag stating ownership, accumulation start date, contents, and hazards of the waste must be securely attached to your waste container before waste is added.
The Online Waste Tag Program (OTP) is UC San Diego’s Online Waste Tracking Program. When you enter information about a waste chemical into the OTP, it generates a completed waste tag ready for you to print and attach to your container. Use the OTP’s collection request feature when you’re ready for a waste pickup.

2. Go to the Online Waste Tag Program and create a waste tag. For “Indicate type of content,” select Chemical Waste.

3. Use the OTP’s Request Pickup feature to have the waste collected on the next regularly scheduled collection day.

Please note that all services will be performed during the normal business hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on your scheduled service day. Additionally, San Diego Medical Waste Services does not charge a premium for “off-cycle” service requests, however “Off-Cycle” services do not constitute a reorganization of your current service schedule and will be charged as a “normal service”. Once this “Off-Cycle” service request has been completed, we will continue to service your facility as defined by your predetermined service schedule.

Which styles does the TevaForever recycling program accept?
Our TevaForever recycling program will accept all Teva sandals and flip flops. The Original Universal? Yep. Hurricane XLT2? That, too. Flatforms? Absolutely. The only thing we’re not currently accepting are Teva shoes and boots. Our hope is that we’ll be able to open our recycling program to Teva boots and shoes in the future.
