When you are ready to get rid of an unwanted or expired propane tank, it’s important that you do it the right way to keep everyone safe. Propane tanks can’t be thrown away in your regular trash pickup, but we’re here to make disposal easy. Exchanging your old propane tank for a refilled one is the easiest way to dispose of it, but if you need to get rid of it for good- you can also just drop it off at most propane refill or exchange locations.
Since there’s a possibility of propane left in the tank, many landfills, recycling centers, and scrap metal dealers will not accept unwanted tanks for recycling. However, some propane exchange companies, including Blue Rhino, will happily take your unused propane cylinders and recycle them at no cost to you. If you have a propane tank that you don’t want, place your old tank beside a Blue Rhino display and we’ll take care of the rest.
We offer free commercial and residential e-waste pickup service throughout San Diego County.
Our service is free when, included in your recycling, are 2 or more computers, flat screen TVs, network switches, or pro audio components. Please read our Pickup Policy for details.
Due to physical limitations and legal guidelines, we are unable to accept the following through our automated system. Please call us if you need to recycle any of the following:

With Too Good To Go you can save food from the restaurants, cafes and stores that are on the app. Instead of having to throw away food at the end of the day, these places offer what they have in Surprise Bags. You can buy a Surprise Bag in the app and then go to the store to collect it, the actual contents will be a surprise until you get there! You get great food at great value while also helping fight food waste! To find what Surprise Bags are available near you, just use the app to search and then you buy it through the app. You’ll be given a pick-up time and then you just need to turn up and show the staff your order in the app. More than 1/3 of food is wasted so you’re doing a great thing and hopefully having a bit of fun while you do it!

Co-Harvest is an agricultural nonprofit that establishes and maintains micro-farms at low costs throughout San Diego. We transform your unused space into an efficient micro-farm, which feeds your family and your community. Freshly harvested crops are distributed back to members, food banks, and community fridges. Sliding scale memberships and farm installations are available for low-income families, philanthropists and pre-existing farms & community spaces.
Get started by scheduling a free consultation. We’ll determine the best plan for you based on the amount of space you have (minimum 10×10 ft), sunlight, irrigation, and your income eligibility. Then you’ll pick your veggies, pick your membership plan, and we’ll start co-harvesting!

Please contact the store first & let them know what day you will be bringing books.
1 or 2 bags of clean, used books at a time per customer, please.
Store offers 50% off of used-book prices with your trade-credit! The amount we issue will be in the computer under your name to use at each purchase until credit runs out.
They will give you back the books we pass on.
Please – anything broken or soiled don’t bring.
They don’t pay cash for books – they offer a trade-credit. They look at the books you bring, and once they’ve selected the titles they think we can resell, they offer approx. 1/2 of our estimated retail price as a credit. Your credit then pays for up to 50% of the price of used books and up to 25% of the price of any other items; ie new books, stationery or any orders (new or used).
Picture ID is required. They will keep the credit balance in their database. Please make at least one purchase a year to keep your credit active. We don’t pay cash.
Verbatim Books is very selective about the books they take, but they do buy all types of books (except for school textbooks). For a better idea of what they buy, please feel free to browse around the store and see the books they are selling.
Unfortunately they cannot say if they will be able to buy books without seeing them in person. They pay about 20% in cash/30% in store credit of their retail value.
They buy/trade on Fridays and also on Mondays from 12-4 pm and also by appointment if those times can’t work for you.
If you have more than 5 boxes of books, please make an appointment.
To make an appointment, send an email to selling AT verbatimbooks.com (please replace the AT with an @ symbol) with a picture of the books or at least a cross-section of them to give them an idea of what you have. Without pictures, they will likely not be able to make an appointment. They have appointments available Saturday and Sunday for your convenience.
Please note that they do not make house calls or take donations.
A downspout is a pipe that helps rainwater flow off the roof, but they often flow directly onto hard, impervious areas like concrete or pavement. That water runoff then enters the storm drain system where it flows untreated into San Diego’s waterways and the ocean. A downspout redirect helps this rainwater flow to a vegetated area to be naturally filtered instead. So joining your neighbors and utilizing this rebate will help protect our beaches, water quality and marine life.
Receive up to $40 per disconnect by redirecting downspout to a landscaped area. Normally done in conjunction with a rain barrel application
Rebates for rain barrels and rain gutters are also available. Visit the City of San Diego website for more info.
Rain Gutters are used on your home to divert rainwater away from your property in an effort to protect your roof and foundation from rainwater accumulation. But did you know Rain Gutters are also used to divert rainwater into a green space, your landscape or rain barrel which can naturally filter out pollutants which may end up in our storm drains.
Rebates for new gutters are $1.25 for every linear foot of aluminum gutter, $2.00 for every linear foot of steel
gutters and $0.25 for every linear foot of PVC/vinyl/plastic gutter, up to 250 feet.
Only the cost of the gutter is eligible for a rebate.
Rebates for rain barrels and downspout redirects are also available. Visit the City of San Diego website for more info.

How’s it work?

The County of San Diego Board of Supervisors unanimously approved updates to the Solid Waste Ordinance on May 5, 2021. This requires all residents and businesses in the densely-populated, and to a lesser extent sparsely-populated, areas of the unincorporated County to comply with new recycling requirements. Densely-populated areas include census tracts that have a population density of more than 75 people per square mile. Click the website link to see how the new ordinance impacts you.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Why do I have to pay for a recycling bin from my waste hauler? Waste services are provided by a series of franchise haulers who set their own rates as private companies. As such, when additional services are added, residents will have to pay their haulers for the additional service(s).
What is right sizing? Right sizing is the process of adjusting your waste collection services to match the amount and type of waste your property produces. The County recommends right sizing services to make them more affordable (such as decreasing the size of your landfill bin once you receive recycling or organics services). In general, using cart services only instead of a dumpster service should result in a cheaper waste bill.
How do I get a kitchen caddie/compost bin for collecting food scraps? Ask your hauler if they are offering free kitchen caddies, or they can be purchased from many home goods, home improvement, and online shops.
For specifics on the solid waste ordinance please view the following web pages, depending on your area*:
*Based on census tract data, densely-populated areas include larger communities such as Spring Valley, Lakeside, Ramona, Fallbrook, etc., while sparsely-populated areas include smaller communities such as Campo, Boulevard, Warner Springs, Ranchita, etc. Verify which type of area you live in here.

Contribute to a greener future by providing businesses with a responsible option to recycle old car seats. Contact Car Seat Recycling to explore how we can help achieve your sustainability goals
After careful consideration and evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue our individual car seat mail-back program effective December 15th.
The costs associated with shipping and processing have made it economically unfeasible to continue the recycling program in this manner.
If you have already purchased a kit but have not yet shipped your old car seat, please ship it at your earliest convenience, and rest assured that we will recycle it promptly upon receipt.
However, we will no longer accept new orders as of December 15th.
Our commitment to sustainability remains unwavering. We will continue to offer a bulk recycling program for retailer trade-in events, manufacturers, and municipalities. This ensures that we can still provide a sustainable end-of-life solution for child safety seats.
